Президент Украины был удостоен такой чести в благодарность за возвращение украденных из городского музея полотен, которые обнаружились под Одессой.
Депутаты городского совета итальянской Вероны приняли решение лишить президента Украины Петра Порошенко звания почетного гражданина своего города.
Этой чести лидера Украины удостоили в 2016 году в благодарность за возвращение украденных из городского музея семнадцати полотен, которые обнаружились под Одессой.
Картины общей стоимостью около 20 миллионов евро были похищены из музея Кастельвеккьо в ноябре 2015 года, среди них были работы Тинторетто, Рубенса, Мантеньи, Пизанелло и Карото.
По обвинению в их краже тогда были арестованы девять граждан Молдавии и трое итальянцев, а Порошенко, как сообщал сайт kp.ru, заверил, что все шедевры изобразительного искусства будут возвращены музею Вероны.
Однако в четверг, 20 сентября, стало известно, что горсовет отменил позапрошлогоднее решение муниципалитета и лишил президента Украины почетного звания.
Об этом рассказал агентству Sputnik Italia член городского совета Вероны Вито Коменчини.
«Решение об отмене вступает в силу немедленно», — уточнил он.
Инициатором награждения Порошенко званием почетного гражданина Вероны в 2016 году выступил мэр города Флавио Този, но многие общественные организации выступили против этого решения из-за войны на Донбассе.
